My Pledge To
 Connecticut

A Trade Policy that Puts America First

It began with the North American Free Trade Agreement, grew worse when China was admitted to the World Trade Organization, and became an economic crisis for the middle class when our trading partners exploited the rules and tariff rates.

Middle America has never recovered from the damage done to the working class,

the loss of good manufacturing jobs, and the ability of Americans to raise a family

on one income.

For the past 25 years we have had a trade deficit with the rest of the world. During

that period, more than 5 million manufacturing jobs disappeared from U.S. soil.

China has risen to an economic and military superpower thanks to U.S. trade

policy that put America last.

We can do better. We must.

Jobs for the Middle Class

The official unemployment rate in the United States is 4.3%. The number omits a

painful statistic—the families where both fathers and mothers must work to make

ends meet, the parents who have to hold more than one job in order to pay the

mortgage, the inflation rate that ravages the purchasing power of their paycheck.

The purchasing power of the middle class is only slightly higher than it was 25

years ago. Little wonder that working class people are in revolt, unable to afford a

home, never able to get ahead, living paycheck to paycheck, one illness or calamity

away from bankruptcy.

America needs good jobs that pay good wages, access to trade school where they

can learn new skills and crafts, and a tax policy that encourages American

companies to build their manufacturing and production facilities on American soil.

Securing Our Borders

"A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.”

For decades, members of both political parties ignored our immigration problem.

Democrats saw them as a source of democratic votes. Well-healed business

interests saw them as a source of cheap labor.

In the past 25 years, more than 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the

United States, placing an enormous burden on schools, our health care system and

the resources of local, state and the federal government.

It’s time to pass a comprehensive Immigration Bill.

We can. We must.

  • Safe and secure borders

  • Clear rules on who can come in, and who is allowed to stay

  • A coherent guest worker policy

  • Immediate deportation for anyone convicted of a violent crime

Safer Cities. Safer Streets. Safer Neighborhoods.

There is too much violent crime in the United States. Too many innocent victims

of crime. And too little done to stop it.

It is quaint to hear liberals say that crime is down. What they fail to mention is that

it skyrocketed during the covid crisis and still permeates the landscape in too many

cities, on too many streets, in too many neighborhoods.

This is my truth. When you lessen the consequences of crime, you will have more

crime. When criminals know that they’ll be released by a lenient judge, or offered

cashless bail, or given a slap on the wrist for peddling drugs, or set free after

assaulting a helpless senior, or hamstring prosecutors, they will do it again.

Feeling safe is the foundation of freedom!

The Second Amendment Means What it Says

All law-abiding American citizens have the right to keep and bear arms.

That language is in the United States Constitution. It means what it says.

Consistent with the oath I will take to the Constitution, I will oppose any and all

attempts to infringe on that right as a Member of Congress.

Standing with Our Veterans

We can never do too much to help those who have risked their lives protecting the

freedoms we all enjoy. All veterans deserve quality health care when they need it,

preferences on jobs when they are looking for work, food and housing aid when

they encounter economic or health related issues.

Boys are Boys. Girls are Girls

Our Bill of Rights entitles us to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All people

are entitled to be who they are.

There are however, biological differences between genders. I do not believe that

someone born male has an inherent right to compete in sports against someone

born female. Not in grade school. Not in high school. Not in college.

Universities that Teach, Not Indoctrinate

Our Colleges and Universities need to do some soul-searching. The purpose of

higher education is to teach our young how to think, and equip them with skills

required to master a craft or subject.

It is not to indoctrinate them to a particular point of view, or give them worthless

degrees, or tell them what to think or portray the United States an evil empire.

It is not to silence the voices of conservative thinkers, or deny jobs to conservative

scholars, or regulate free speech or punish students who dare to challenge

conventional wisdom.

Pro-Parent Means Pro-Parent

The ultimate authority over the raising of a child is the parent. It is not a teacher, or

guidance counselor or psychologist employed by a school corporation.

Therefore, I believe parents have an inherent right to object when schools try to

indoctrinate their children, assign objectionable books or materials, or fail to

inform parents about medical issues involving their children.

Pro-Family. Pro-Life

I believe life begins at conception.

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of

the womb I sanctified thee,... ” Jeremiah 1:5

It is my hope that someday that view will be held by a majority of Americans.
